RV & a Radio using the Alpha MOTO Antenna

I cannot remember when I bought my Alpha MOTO.  It’s the older model.  Still working great!

Mounting the MOTO Antenna

Mounted fairly near the roof top of a WINNEBAGO Travato 59K, Class B motorhome that is 9′-6″ highest point which is the top of the Air conditioning unit.  I am using the 5-foot whip which means I can improve on that but as-is means I can leave vertical and clear 14’6″ overpasses. It still works pretty well when I have the top of the whip tied down. This also means I can drive this RV in and out of my exactly 10-foot-high shop door opening where I park the RV.

The mounting bolt on this older Moto is now a trifle loose but it does not seem to be in danger of pulling out.  Someday I might get nervous about that and order your new “full metal jacket” to replace the one I have now.

Operating the MOTO Antenna

Swivel the passenger seat around to prop my feet up on the driver seat. Or swivel all the way around and recline the back of the seat.  Or stand up and walk around the forward end of the coach area since the microphone that comes with the TS-480SAT has a fairly long straight section of its otherwise coiled cable.  That largely analog based radio, which is now discontinued I think, is still a good performing with limited features and performance base rig.  However, I have to give KENWOOD engineers high praise for designing a radio that operationally and performance-wise is far better than most all other radios new or old in a mobile-specific environment.  Of course, as always, we need to pay attention to the antenna.

Experiences with the MOTO Antenna

Perhaps the location of the MOTO base as shown is not ideal but I am not experiencing any particular negative qualities with actual match and on the air performance.  I probably should see reality in my analyzer, but I haven’t bothered since it works so very well right where it is.

Accolades

Thank you for a marvelous mobile antenna!
